Classic Syrah nose with a very intense fruit-driven character, this classy wine shows notes of liquorice and violet complemented by a hint of dark chocolate. Rich black fruits are enveloped by a smooth and velvety texture through to a lovely fresh finish. Made without any oak influence and with no added sulphites to allow the purity of fruit shine through.

Château de Campuget is a beautiful property in Costières de Nîmes, an appellation on the up that’s a fine hunting ground for well-priced, characterful wines, especially from smaller producers such as this one. Established in 1942, the château itself was built in 1753, which is also when the first vines were planted here (hence the name of this wine). In 2019, Château de Campuget was certified as Haute Valeur Environmentale, which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY

“Lots of fresh red fruit met with notes of spices; cinnamon and nutmeg. There’s Mediterranean garrigue and spice with a refreshing orangey acidity to finish.” 89 points
