A classic dry, crisp Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Punchy on the nose, with nuances of fruit and citrus, especially grapefruit. On the palate, the balance of acidity is just right; wonderfully refreshing without being overpowering. A lovely match for seafood, but great for drinking on its own, too.

In the heart of the Loire, Touraine is real Sauvignon Blanc country. Domaine Francois Cartier has been making wine here for five generations and now has almost 25 hectares under vine on some of the best soils (alkaline perruche and silex) in the Cher Valley. A little Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot d’Aunis and Cot is grown here, but Sauvignon Blanc is really what it’s all about. An attractive alternative to Sancerre at a fraction of the price.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY

“Pear and hawthorn-blossom aromas. Very sweet fruit in the mouth. Ripe apricots and passion fruit with a stab of lemon-and-lime acidity. Very alive and vibrant – seems to pop in the mouth. Almost a little salty on the finish, along with a suggestion of mountain-stream stones. Moreish and creating the perfect triangle of ripeness, acidity and interest.” 16.5 points
